Jeju Island, Diving Paradise of South Korea

Jeju Island, located in the south of South Korea, offers divers a unique underwater experience. Its volcanic formations, clear waters and rich biodiversity appeal to divers of all levels. Whether you are an experienced diver looking for thrills in strong currents or a new diver looking to explore the colorful coral reefs, Jeju Island has a lot to offer.

Jeju Island, a very important point of our diving operation in South Korea, has a dynamic underwater ecosystem that makes it so special. Its location at a point where both warm and cold water currents intersect is the biggest reason for this richness. The island’s volcanic formations, lava tubes, underwater reefs and extensive coral reefs offer impressive seascapes.

The proximity of the Kuroshio Current to Jeju allows tropical and temperate marine species to coexist, making it one of the most biodiverse diving destinations in Asia.

The most important factor that makes diving in Jeju Island colorful for me is the Soft Corals. These waters are decorated with fascinating and colorful soft corals. With shades of pink, purple, red and orange, soft corals offer a dazzling visual feast and provide a habitat for many sea creatures.

Soft corals play a very important role in the ecosystem. It provides a sheltered home for many marine creatures such as small reef fish, nudibranchs and crabs. In addition, the density of corals creates an ideal environment for macro diving enthusiasts.

Jeju’s soft corals are remarkable not only for their beauty but also for the marine life around them. For example, you can find many colorful nudibranches among the corals. Or seahorses clinging to the corals against the current. Yellow-tailed Snapper, butterfly fish, kingfish and many other species guarding the reefs.

For environmentally conscious divers, Jeju’s biodiversity is a reminder of the importance of marine conservation efforts. Many dive centers actively participate in cleanup and education programs to protect these habitats.

Diving Seasons and Conditions

Diving in Jeju is available year-round, but the experience varies according to the seasons.

Spring (April-June)

The water temperature ranges between 14-18°C and visibility starts to improve. Spring is an ideal time when the soft corals are in full bloom.

Summer (July-September)

The warm waters (23-27°C) are full of increased marine life. This is the perfect time to see tropical species, but start diving early to avoid the summer crowds.

Autumn (October-November)

This is the ideal time for diving in Jeju. The water temperature is between 20-23°C, visibility is at its peak and marine life is abundant.

Winter (December-March)

Cooler waters (12-15°C) provide crystal clear visibility and a calmer, more peaceful diving experience. During this period, I recommend using a dry suit.

Also, don’t forget to explore the Haenyo’s while you are in Jeju Island.

As for transportation, most of the diving centers are in the Seogwipo area. You can reach here with a short car ride. If you rent a car, you will have the opportunity to explore different parts of the island. Jeju is a really big island and there are many places to explore.

With colorful marine life, impressive underwater landscapes and world-class dive sites, Jeju Island promises an unforgettable diving experience. Pack your gear, book your flight and get ready to explore one of South Korea’s most extraordinary destinations above and below the water.

Get ready to dive and be mesmerized by Jeju’s underwater world!
